About

The Owner/Artist

Heyo! I’m Shaina - the gal pouring her love into all aspects of Ridge & River. From the birth of a design to the packaging of an order, I wear every hat there is to be worn in this small business.

Beading began as an escape back in 2019. A way to slow down and think creatively. As Ridge & River has grown, so have I.

In June of 2022, I left a job I loved to take a chance on my dream of running Ridge & River full time. Even then, I couldn't have imagined just how much that decision changed my life for the better. I am thankful every day for the community this art has provided and the incredible connections I have made with my customers and other creative small business owners.

These days, with Ridge & River well established, I find joy in sharing what I have learned along the way with fellow artists and encouraging anyone who feels drawn to create for a living (or just an afternoon) to let themselves explore! The world needs art, and when we build each other up, we all win.

When I'm not sitting at my beading mat, you'll likely find me fishing, foraging for nature noms, nurturing my garden and chickens, or just generally playing outside! Winters usually find me reading, exploring new crafts, skiing, or just snuggling up for a moving night with smol bear, lorge bear, black bear and my parter (two bears added in 2024 - big year!).

Living in Chugiak, Alaska, I am a settler living on Dena’ina land and am grateful for the incredible privilege of living here.

Thank you so much for being here!

Meet Smol Bear!

The official “good boy” of Ridge & River

You will notice that all things here at Ridge & River are *smol bear approved

A rescue pup from Chevak, Alaska turned beaded earring connoisseur, smol bear boops and approves each pair of earrings and every order before they go to their forever home. A master of tennis balls, sass and snugs, smol bear would like you to know that the quality assurance program here is in good paws.

When not deeply focused on the approval process, smol bear can be found pouncing through deep snow, scootching rocks (he prefers we call it "landscaping"), stuffing all 80 of his tennis balls under the living room couch and running around with his humans and sibblings on their many adventures!
